This article is based around a RECLAIM program which is aimed to help youth offenders. The program was inspired back in the 1990’s by a problem of overpopulation in prisons, as RECLAIM provided an alternative to incarceration which allowed for youths to be served at home. Participants have been noted to have decreased amounts of substance abuse, and less abuse trauma symptoms. Not to mention the program is a lot cheaper than traditional incarceration. The article used Ohio as an example of the program’s success, as youth prison admissions in Ohio has decreased approximately 80%. As shown in the article, children carry potential and can be rehabilitated successfully if money and time are being put into proper use. With current jailing policies, a youth’s future is determined by one mistake, and the RECLAIM program portrays the possibility of positive change. The article contained almost no bias as its many claims were backed up with reliable statistics. Overall, correction is important and should be focused on, this article illustrates an example of successful correction.
